Dr Gillian qualified in 1982 in South Africa where she completed her internship. She then undertook further training in hospitals in South Africa, the UK and Australia, gaining extensive experience in emergency medicine, anaesthetics, neurology, ophthalmology and oncology.

Since moving to Brisbane in 1991, Dr Gillian has worked in General Practice with a special interest in Women's Health. She has also obtained additional qualifications and experience in family planning, adolescent health, mental health and sports medicine.

Dr Gillian is married with two adult children. She has many and varied interests including reading, music, jogging and walking.
